The
Rite of Christian Inititation
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or
R.C.l.A., is a four-step process whereby individuals who are interested
in becoming part of the Catholic Community are prepared for reception
into the Church. This class is for those who are not Catholic and are
interested in learning about the Church, for Catholics who might like
to refresh their knowledge of what the Church is teaching today, and for
Catholic adults who would like to be confirmed.
The R.C.I.A. program begins in September and culminates
at the Easter Vigil. The candidates also participate in a Rite of Election
each year at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee, presided
over by the Archbishop.
The program is conducted by Deacon Pat Frye, assisted
by people of the parish. Its meetings vary by the type of candidates within
the group. Usually the meetings are every other Sunday and every Sunday
during Lent. The program culminates at the Easter Vigil Service where
the Catechumens are either baptized or make a profession of Faith, receive
First Eucharist and are confirmed. Adults who have not been confirmed
are also receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil Service.
Registration is held in August of each year and classes begin in early
September.
A special pre-catechumenate class of those who
are interested in learning about the Catholic faith continues throughout
the year. Should they so desire, they may join the RCIA program in September
by registering with the Religious Education Department.
