Saint
Joseph High School
Saint Joseph High School is a co-educational Catholic
High School of 300-330 students. Guided by a mission statement based on
Christian values, its focus is on preparing young people for successful
college careers and thoughful life decisions.
St. Joseph was established through the efforts
of Monsignor Ralph Altstadt, pastor of St. Mark Parish, and others in
1957. The school was owned by the School Sisters of Saint Francis until
1991 when the Archdiocese of Milwaukee assumed the ownership of the schools
while the parishes of Kenosha assumed its governance and support. The
school services all of Kenosha County and southwest Racine County in Wisconsin
as well as northern Lake County in Illinois.
St. Joseph High School is located at 2401-60th
Street, Kenosha, WI 53143. Its telephone number is (262) 654-8651. The
school has a closed campus with six to seven classes every day. The campus
is large and the school has ample classroom space, a science department,
and extensive art department, a 1,800 seat gymnasium, a 900 seat theater
with orchestra pit and dressing rooms, and a comprehensive weight training
facility.
The school's requirements for graduation exceeded
state standards. In 1998, 96% of the graduating class went on to 37 different
colleges and universities. Ninety-nine percent of the students graduate
on time. Eighty percent of all students graduate with two or more years
of foreign language.
As one of the supporting parishes, St. Mark is
proud of St. Joseph High school and its contribution to life in Kenosha.
