Outreach
Ministries
The greatest of all the gifts, according to Saint
Paul, is love. The manner in which this love is expressed in our parish
life takes many forms. The food pantry pictured here supports many people
of the community without regard for race, etnicity, or religion. Our parish
strives to serve in whatever way is helpful both spiritually and corporally.
Newcomer Welcome Ministry
The Newcomer Visitation Committee involves follow-up
contact with new members of St. Mark parish. The purpose of each welcome
visit is to acquaint the new member with all our parish opportunities
and activities. The new member usually registers at the parish office.
Newcomer Visitation members later arrange a telephone call to new parishioners
where a more personal welcome is extended and information and questions
about the parish are discussed. Being a member of the Visitation Committee
is a wonderful way to welcome new families and build friendships at the
same time.
Holiday Food Baskets
In coordination with the Circle of Friends, Holiday
Food Baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas are an important part of St.
Marks continuous sharing with the local community. This ministry
allows members of St. Mark Parish to contribute to the giving spirit.
Whether it is a gift of time to put the baskets together, delivering baskets
to the recipients, a donation of food items to add to a basket, a ready-made
basket, or a monetary donation, everyone in the Parish can share the "gift
of giving" at these special times of the year.
Visitors to the Homebound
Many people in our parish family are limited in
their ability to participate in the ongoing life of the church due to
age or illness. It is vitally important that these people know of our
continuing love and care. The total time commitment is dependent on the
particular needs of the person being visited. Specific times of visitation
are arranged by the volunteer and the person to be visited. You will develop
a concept of ministry, including listening to, empathizing with and accepting
our homebound parishioners.
Recently a groups has formed to provide meals to
those just returning from hospitalization.
Nursing Home Ministry
St. Mark Church supports the Sheridan Medical
Complex by offering a bi-weekly Mass to their Catholic residents on the
second and fourth Fridays of the month. The parish also celebrates Mass
at Meadowmere Southport assisted living center on the first and thrid
Fridays of the month.
Volunteers are needed to escort the elderly to the meeting room and participate
in the Mass. These ministers are immediately rewarded by the participation
and appreciative smiles of the residents.
Bereavement Ministry
This group coordinates ministry to parishioners
who have suffered the loss of loved ones through personal contact after
a death. It also sponsors an annual Mass of Rememberance for those who
have died.
