The Anointing of the Sick This sacrament celebrates God's healing power and strength.
It is NOT the "last rites" given when a person is about to die.
The last rite to celebrate is Viaticum, Holy Communion given shortly before
death as "food for the journey". For this reason, the priests
should be informed of the serious illness of a Catholic early on and the
anointing of the sick is to be given to any who are seriously ill. Additionally, communal celebrations of the Anointing of the Sick take place periodically throughout the year. Because it is a Sacrament of the Living, it is not administered to those who have died. Please call the Rectory (656-7373) for information and arrangements. |
