The
Sacrament of Confirmation
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, Christians
are given the charismatic gifts necessary to live their lives as adults
within the Church. Church law requires this sacrament to have been received
in order for a person to be a sponsor at another's Baptism. It should
also be received before the sacrament of Marriage to give the persons
about to become parents the graces needed to share their faith with their
children.
A special class in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered
for those high school students who have been in our Religious Education
program.
Confirmation, the third sacrament of Christian initiation, is a confirming
of one's commitment to one's faith. Because of its importance, the preparation
period is a three year program begun in the ninth grade and continued
through the eleventh grade. The program consists of instruction, service
and prayer/retreat experiences.
College aged and other adults desiring to be confirmed prepare for this
sacrament through participation in the R.C.l.A. classes on Sunday Mornings.
